One of my favorite animals that we discovered is the prairie wolf (coyote). We first spotted these animals on September of 1804 in South Dakota, and that wasn't the only time. Almost every week we saw about two or three. Every once in a while we even saw a whole pack of them. We did not know the were carnivores until we noticed a pack prairie wolfs snacking on a deer. The color of the coyotes pelt varies from grayish brown to yellowish gray on the upper parts, and the throat and belly have a white color. The forelegs, sides of head, snout and feet are a reddish brown color. They have ears that stick up about four inches and long fluffy tails the same color as their body. These animals may look friendly, but hey are very aggressive when they are in a pack. They also have razor sharp teeth that can tear anything into bits.

I like them too, and that second picture is... wow... either he is tired or about to kill the camera

ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures and excellent description, Joe. As we head upriver this week, could you begin each journal entry with a date. Not the date from blogger, but your date on the trail in either 1804 or 2002. Again, thanks for the great start. Two entries. One even with pictures!
